Wal-Mart Moves to Sell HD Digital Radios in Automotive Section

Wal-Mart announced this week that it will begin to sell

HD digital radios.  High Definition (HD) radios are digital radios that enable users to receive more channels than they can normally fit into an analog car stereo or portable radio.

These radios also allow greater interactivity from the users or listeners that is to the radio station.  Furthermore the radio stations can deliver a stream form digital information about the songs that are being listened to.  Instead of just hearing the song and reading the channel, listeners can read the name of the song the artist the album gets a mother additional information from the song.

In theory the sound quality should also be better on these broadcasts and on these radios.  As in the case of any digital product, this is possible but not necessarily assured.  Wal-Mart's move into HD digital radios comes at a time when Internet digital radio broadcasters are being hit with royalty increases that are set by a board within the United States Congress.
